Why Tradies Are Choosing Mozome Over Commission-Based Platforms
Every dollar counts when you run a trade business. Yet thousands of Australian tradespeople hand over 15 to 20 per cent of every job to platform commissions, lead fees, or subscription charges. On a $500 plumbing job, that is $75 to $100 going to a platform rather than into the tradesperson's pocket. Over a year, those fees add up to $5,000, $10,000, or more — money that could go towards tools, a new van, marketing, or simply paying the mortgage.
Mozome takes a fundamentally different approach. Zero commission. Zero lead fees. Zero subscription charges for providers. Tradies keep 100 per cent of what they earn, and customers pay the genuine market rate without platform markup. This is not a temporary promotion — it is the core business model. Here is why it matters and what real tradies are saying about the difference it makes.

The True Cost of Commission Platforms
Commission-based platforms have become a fact of life for many Australian tradespeople. But the true cost goes beyond the percentage they take from each job. When a platform charges 15 to 20 per cent commission, tradespeople have two choices: absorb the cost (reducing their effective hourly rate) or inflate their prices to cover it (making them less competitive and passing the cost to customers).
Most tradespeople do a bit of both — they absorb some and pass some on. The result is a market where customers pay more than they should and tradespeople earn less than they deserve. Both sides lose, and only the platform wins.
Annual Platform Fee Comparison
Annual cost comparison for a tradesperson earning $60,000–$80,000 through platform bookings.
| Platform | Fee Structure | Annual Cost (Avg Tradie) | What You Keep |
|---|---|---|---|
| Commission platform (15%) | 15% of every job | $6,000–$12,000/year | 85% of earnings |
| Lead-fee platform | $15–$50 per lead | $3,000–$8,000/year | Varies (many leads don't convert) |
| Subscription platform | $200–$500/month | $2,400–$6,000/year | 100% of jobs won |
| Mozome (zero commission) | $0 | $0 | 100% of every dollar earned |
How Mozome's Zero-Commission Model Works
Mozome's model is simple. Service providers create a free profile, set their own rates, define their service area, and accept bookings directly from customers. There is no commission deducted from any job, no lead fees, and no mandatory subscription. Customers can browse profiles, read reviews, and book directly.
The platform generates revenue through optional premium features for providers who want enhanced visibility, and through value-added services — not by taxing every transaction. This alignment of incentives means the platform succeeds when providers succeed, rather than profiting from every dollar that flows through it.
Real Tradies, Real Numbers
Mark is a licensed plumber in Melbourne who switched to Mozome from a commission-heavy platform in 2025. "I was paying $800 to $1,000 per month in commission on the old platform. That is $10,000 to $12,000 a year. On Mozome, I keep everything. My rates are actually $5 per hour lower than they were on the other platform, and I still take home more money per job. Customers get a better price and I earn more. It is a no-brainer."
Lisa runs a two-person cleaning business on the Gold Coast. "Lead fees were killing us. We would pay $30 for a lead that turned out to be a tyre-kicker. On Mozome, customers come to us through our profile. They have already seen our reviews, our rates, and our service description. The quality of enquiries is much higher because there is no bidding war — customers choose us because they like what they see."
James is an electrician in Sydney who uses multiple platforms. "I use Mozome as my primary platform now. The difference is that on Mozome, when a customer books me at $110 per hour, I get $110 per hour. On other platforms, I quote $130 to cover the commission, and the customer thinks I am expensive. Mozome lets me be competitive and profitable at the same time."
Building Your Business on Mozome
Success on Mozome, like any platform, depends on building a strong profile. The tradespeople who do best share several characteristics. They have a complete profile with a clear description of services, service areas, and qualifications. They respond to enquiries quickly — average response time is visible on profiles and affects how prominently you appear in search results. They deliver consistent, high-quality work that generates positive reviews. And they set fair, transparent pricing that reflects the value they provide.
The compounding effect of reviews is powerful. Each positive review makes your profile more attractive to the next potential customer. Tradespeople with 20 or more reviews and a 4.5-plus rating report significantly higher booking rates than those with fewer reviews.
Getting Started: What You Need
- A valid licence (for licensed trades — plumbing, electrical, gas fitting, building)
- Public liability insurance (minimum $5 million recommended)
- An ABN (Australian Business Number)
- A clear description of your services and service area
- Professional photos (profile photo and work examples)
- 10 minutes to set up your profile
Mozome verifies all provider credentials before profiles go live. For licensed trades, this includes confirming your licence with the relevant state authority. This verification process protects both providers and customers and builds trust in the platform.
Zero Commission Guarantee: Mozome will never charge service providers commission on bookings. This is not a promotional offer — it is the core of our business model. Tradies keep 100% of what they earn. Always.
